CINVESTAV (The Center for Research and Advanced Studies) is a Mexican governmental scientific research institute divided into ten research centers along the country, which are dedicated to diverse areas of research and postgraduate training. Our CINVESTAV campus hosts two research Units: The Unidad Irapuato (which includes the Department of Genetic Engineering and the Department of Biotechnology and Biochemistry) and Unidad de Genómica Avanzada (UGA-Langebio). Together both units offer Master's and Ph.D. programs in Plant Biotechnology, including the areas of genetics, genomics, epigenetics, biotechnology, bioinformatics, synthetic biology, biochemistry, and microbiology. The campus is located in Irapuato, Guanajuato. Our academic community is composed by a staff of 45 professors and 175 students.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- For admission to a master's or Ph.D. program, a previous Bachelor's or Master's degree, respectively, is required.
- A minimum grade point average equivalent to 8.0 in the Mexican grading system (8/10); please consult the webpage to see the equivalent of this grade in your country's grading system.
- Basic knowledge of Spanish is required, given that most courses are conducted in Spanish.
- CENEVAL EXANI III or GRE (General) examination dated after August 1st, 2024
HOW TO APPLY FOR ADMISSION:
If you have not taken the EXANI III and received a score of at least 1050 points for a master's or 1100 for a Ph.D. , please register and pay on the Ceneval website
Important: The lack of required documents, including validation of foreign MS and Bachelor’s Degrees, and procedures for the obtaining of a Mexican student visa not allow sufficient time for foreign applicants who successfully pass the admission exam to start in September 2024. If this is the case, we will allow PhD students to start either in March 2025 or September 2025. MS students accepted can begin in September 2025.

EVALUATION PROCESS
Applicants will be evaluated based on the results of the EXANI III and an internal online exam from Cinvestav, in addition to a general evaluation of their qualifications (e.g., grades, work experience, knowledge of English). Qualified applicants will be invited for an online interview. The decisions of the Academic Committee are final.

5. ONLINE INTERVIEWS
Once foreign applicants have passed all previous exams, they will receive an email with the date for an online interview with the selection committee.
6. RESULTS OF THE ADMISSION PROCESS
The results of the process will be available by July 26th, 2024
7. INTRODUCTORY COURSES
Accepted applicants must take the introductory online courses, which will take place from August 1st till August 30th 2024.
